Still playing

I'm certainly going a little way to using some of my card and paper stash, probably have too many birthday cards now - here's just one more.

Cuttlebug Challenge

Thought I'd have a go at this challenge today, the challenge was to use two embossing styles and a nature theme, the two embossing folders I used were Distressed stripes for the green background paper and Birds and Swirls for the cream circle, the nature part is the bird taken from a Crafty Individuals stamp.

Playing Pretty

As I'm getting things ready for our holiday I'm not taking anything on at the moment and just having a play with my Cuttlebug machine and using up some of my stash of card, the result - 'pretty' cards, I really like the effect that you get by using the embossing folders on the card then using punches for the flowers and shapes.

Theme 'India'

A mixed media group I belong to had a theme of India and fabric for an atc swap, it was an "I can do that" moment when I signed up then for some reason I really struggled with them, anyway these posted are the outcome, colourful if nothing else. I really wanted to print some indian pictures onto fabric using the freezer paper method but it doesn't seem to work for me so I had to go back to the inkjet cotton I had bought, I think that was what put me off the project.

Easter Stitching.

We spent Easter with my Aunt in Yorkshire, we had good weather and were able to go out and about. I spent the evenings stitching another crazy quilt block, pleased that I had picked a reasonably light coloured piece as the lighting in the lounge was really not good , despite that I think it turned out quite well, the small crochet piece in the bottom left corner was done by my grandmother over 50 years ago, as it fit in with the colour scheme I thought it a shame not to include it( ignore the big stitches that are showing up, that will eventually be in the seam allowance), we found two other sample pieces in a really old tin with some crochet threads that are still in perfect condition and very usable for stitching.I visited lots of charity shops this weekend and it was only this morning before we left that I found one that had a good stock of lace and bits for crafters, I really think they are throwing out all the good bits that we crafters like to buy 'just in case'.

Ruler Book

The theme for a challenge on one of my groups was to make a Ruler Book, I actually gave up the idea as I couldn't find a wooden ruler but Ange whose challenge it was kindly sent me one so I made this book and set it up as a scrapbook for the photo's I am sure we'll take when we take my Aunt to Scotland for her 9oth birthday treat in June.

A good egg?

I bought a book on various types of felt yesterday ( as if I needed it) and this was in it, I'd found some polystyrene eggs recently that I'd bought years ago so just had to have a go and it will fit into this weeks ABBA challenge. I felted merino wool tops into the egg with a felting needle - as I only had one needle it took a longish while (note to self - buy more needles and a multi needle holder) I added other colours in lines and dots then finished off with punched daisys and sequins fixed in with pins. A hanger was pushed into the end and glued lightly - voila! a felted egg.

Cupcake Pincushion

The ABBA challenge today is to make something using felt, I had wanted to make a cupcake pin cushion from felted jumpers but so far haven't managed to find any nice coloured wool jumpers to felt so here's my chance, try it with commercial felt. I rolled two doubled layers of felt together and stitched the end, added button covered with red felt to make the cherry ( I realise that I picked a red button to cover , why? when no one would see it anyway) then gave the cake a lavender felt case and a matching ribbon .

Another course over.

Is it really three months since Christmas? it must be as I have done two 6 week online courses, doesn't time fly! The last Crazy Quilting lesson came through last night and it is the 'finishing off details', I think I may add a little 'critter' to this block but not sure yet. I have completed two blocks during the course plus a couple of post cards and have really enjoyed it, the block pictured here is one of three that I thought would make a wall hanging for the bedroom or even three seperate ones, so one down and two more to go altho' the second is half finished.
